The Willys MB, forever etched in history as the original "Jeep," stands as one of the most influential vehicles ever built. Produced by Willys-Overland Motors from 1941 to 1945, this rugged, go-anywhere machine was designed to meet the U.S. Army's urgent need for a lightweight, four-wheel-drive reconnaissance vehicle during World War II. Often credited alongside early prototypes from Ford (the GPW) and Bantam, the Willys MB emerged as the definitive model, with over 360,000 units rolling off assembly lines.

Nicknamed "Jeep" – possibly from the slurred "GP" for "General Purpose" or the cartoon character Eugene the Jeep – the MB proved indispensable on battlefields across Europe, Africa, and the Pacific. Its simple yet brilliant design featured a fold-flat windshield, removable canvas top, high ground clearance, and a robust 60-horsepower "Go-Devil" inline-four engine. Weighing just 2,400 pounds, it could ford streams up to 18 inches deep, climb 60% grades, and carry troops, supplies, or even mount a machine gun.

What made the Willys MB legendary was its unbreakable spirit. Soldiers praised its reliability in mud, snow, sand, and jungle – earning it the affectionate title "America's greatest contribution to modern warfare" from journalists. General George Marshall called it "the Army's most valuable vehicle."

After the war, the MB directly inspired the 1945 civilian Jeep CJ-2A, launching a lineage that continues today in every modern Wrangler. Tough, versatile, and timeless, the Willys MB isn't just a vehicle – it's the soul of adventure, freedom, and American ingenuity on wheels.
